A little self-care to boost the way you look and feel

In today’s busy world, so many of us women find ourselves juggling home life with a hectic work schedule. With little time to spare, this can often result in us pushing our own needs to the bottom of our list of priorities. But the importance of self-care should not be underestimated. I’m a big believer that taking just a few minutes each morning to acknowledge your own self-worth can have a hugely positive effect on your life. And it can be something as simple as looking in the mirror and considering your best features, then picking out an outfit that makes the most of them.

Perhaps you have a blouse that brings out the colour of your eyes, or a belt that showcases your enviable hourglass figure. Rather than throwing on the same ‘go-to’ outfits, day in day out, putting together a more carefully considered outfit can radically alter the way you look and feel.

I’ve seen it first-hand so many times at my styling events – women who have become stuck in a style rut because they either don’t have the time or the confidence to try a new look. But by identifying their best assets and showing them how to make the most of them, I see them stand a little taller and walk a little more confidently, and this is one of the main reasons why I love my job so much.

This is also the reason I decided to lend my support to Look Good Feel Better – a charity that helps boost the physical and emotional wellbeing of people undergoing cancer treatment. They do this through various means, including providing makeovers and pamper sessions to boost the self-esteem and confidence of those facing cancer. I co-organised an event to raise awareness of this great cause and donated a portion of my sales to the charity, and it was such a rewarding experience that I’m now on the look-out for other similar worthy causes to champion. So if you know a charity you think would benefit from my support, do get in touch via my social media channels and let me know.

In the meantime, try to factor a few minutes into your daily routine to look in the mirror and acknowledge that you deserve to look good. Because getting ready in the morning – both physically and mentally – is a bit like putting on your armour, empowering yourself to face the day ahead and take on whatever life throws at you with confidence.
